Learn the basics of the brush and create a hand painted sign from scratch.With expert guidance from Smart Alex.
This class will focus on the fundamentals of sign painting, tools of the trade, and much more.
No drawing will take place in this class.
For beginners, hobbyists or anybody interested in the craft. 8am-2:30pm with a 45-min lunch break. Lunch not provided.
A fridge is available for anybody who’d like to bring their own lunch.

8-week Sign Painting Course Workshop
Meets Every Friday for 8 Weeks
February 6, 2026 - March 27, 2026
8 classes once a week, every Friday 7am- 3pm!
Learn the fundamentals of sign painting and rules to lettering and layout.
Each week, students will build their skills starting from the absolute basics of drawing letterforms, to creating a custom, painted sign.
Homework will be assigned throughout the week to assist in understanding the lessons taught during the class. No prior experience required. All materials for the class included.
Taught by Alex Kurakake “Smart Alex” and a special guest.
LA Trade-Tech alumni.
Meets Every Tuesday for 8 Weeks

8 classes once a week, every Tuesday 8am- 4pm!
Learn the basics of the brush, the rules to lettering & layout, multiple alphabets, effects like convex/beveled letters, blending, faux marble, and much more.
Students will build their skills each week and will complete the course with their own custom hand painted sign using all the skills acquired.
Some homework will be assigned throughout the week,
all materials will be provided for the class.
45 min lunch break, fridge available.
Water Gilding Workshop
1 DAY WORKSHOP

Learn the proper way to water gild with genuine gold leaf. Students will participate in creating a two-toned water-gilded sign using traditional methods by hand.
All materials will be supplied by the instructors for class use.
Bring a notebook, pen and PACK YOUR OWN LUNCH! Workshop Address will be sent via email upon registration, located in Huntington Beach. Limited spots available
